However, I do know that apparently there's a lot of really fucking stupid, juvenile bullshit in there - meme references and Justin Bieber hate top the list, as I recall.Īh, here we are.
Basically, there's a couple of cool features - additional start dates throughout history, going from the EU4 period up to the modern day and into the future.
cultural unions - Arab Union, for example) and decisions, as well as the Great War mod that adds empire dismantling and such (also used by every mod I've mentioned. I don't know about other changes, but I'm guessing that, like everyone else, it uses New Nations Mod (a submod used by literally every other mod I've talked about so far), which adds some more countries (esp. Apparently it's trivial to make titanic amounts of money and industrial score through a couple of obvious industry exploits that the AI fails to understand, leading to the player easily gaining a massive advantage in industrial score, giving them a great power spot easily. It has a much bigger industry net, among a vast number of other changes, which is cool, but it's also easy as fuck. I haven't played either, so I'm relaying opinions others have given - I have no strong feelings regarding them. There are also two others that are somewhat popular, but are frequently ridiculed around here.
Those are the most popular mods on this sub. I don't tend to use it though, since I know Vickymod/PPM a bit better, and for a couple petty changes I don't like (two, basically: Guards are changed to their vanilla stats, which basically just makes them less versatile normal infantry, which I dislike because I think being able to field Guards as superior infantry units should be a reward for having greater number of primary or accepted pops, instead of just having them as an alternative to infantry, and they removed the strait crossing between England and France, which I disagree with because I think the UK should be better equipped to intervene on the continent because the AI sucks at naval invasions). I have played with it a little, and it's in active development. It's also possibly the most feature rich of the post Vickymod mods, with an array of new political and social reforms available, which is cool. Now, just because its newfound popularity is the result of an internet catfight doesn't mean it's not good - depending on your preferences, it could easily be the best. After the /gsg/ board on 4chan threw a fit after finding out Vickymod guy (now known as /u/Rangerage) posted Vickymod 2.0a on Reddit first instead of /gsg/, they abandoned their support for that and threw in their lot with HPM, as I understand it (there might have also been some bullshit over them considering Ranger an "SJW," but who fucking cares about that? edit: Further research shows that /u/Rangerage occasionally comes around KotakuInAction, which suggests to me he's "anti-SJW"). Historical Project Mod is the new big kid on the block. It's in active development, with a public forum at r/Vic2Mod. So far, not a ton is changed from Vickymod, but there's some particular ones: there's a few more cultures, especially in the Americas, the Scramble for Africa is fixed up (it's available to everyone now, not just Europeans), and there's a new set of flags. Our own Paradox Plaza Mod is a fork of Vickymod 2.0a. I don't know about other changes, but I heard it was a bit on the ridiculous side in the end game when it came to assimilation and emigration or something like that. I have never used it, but as I understand, it's more multiplayer-oriented (such as increasing and decreasing relations being more drastic per increase/decrease - 50 each, I think, instead of 15/25). It continued using the same versioning, in fact, calling itself Vickymod unofficial.
Robmod was an unofficial successor to Vickymod when it was left unmaintained for a long time on Vickymod version 1.06b. Not a lot of changes, but what's there is great - things like canal building event chains, the Scramble for Africa, cultural unifications, and elections are all improved. 2.0a is the latest (and probably last, seeing as /u/Rangerage isn't feeling up to updating it). If you want to start lightly with mods, Vickymod is your best bet. It's basically a straight improvement on vanilla. Probably the most popular Vicky mod, and is the basis for a couple of other mods.
